The Border Guard and the Central Bureau of Police Investigation carried out an operation concerning the illegal trade in cigarettes without excise stamps. Nine men aged between 45 and 66 were detained; premises and vehicles used by them were searched.
The investigation covers alleged activity in 2025–2026: storing, transporting and distributing wholesale quantities of tobacco products. Investigators estimate lost revenue of at least 6.6 million złoty in excise and more than 1.6 million złoty in VAT.
The suspects face charges including membership of an organised group, while its alleged leader is accused of organising it. A court in Zamość (Zamość) ordered three months in custody for six suspects; non-custodial measures were applied to the others. The investigation continues.
