The growing size of cars affects not only the convenience of drivers, but also the organization of parking. Research from Transport & Environment and the Clean Cities Campaign looks at how longer, wider cars are taking up limited urban space.
For Warsaw (Warszawa), the researchers present a scenario: by 2040, existing spaces could accommodate 10–17.5 thousand fewer cars. In this calculation, the reduction in capacity is associated with the size of the cars, and not with the mandatory physical demolition of parking lots.
The article compares the growth of average new car sizes with the proliferation of larger models. The values given refer to the model and forecast of the study, so they cannot be passed off as an already made municipal decision.
