A succession under assembly rules

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly announced that Mykyta Poturaiev became its president on 28 October 2026. Pere Joan Pons stepped down after accepting a position in the Spanish government.

The most senior vice-president succeeded him under Rule 5.8. Ukraine’s parliament said he will serve until elections in July 2027. This was a succession procedure rather than a fresh election by the full assembly.

Poturaiev identified a just peace for Ukraine respecting its sovereignty among his priorities. His office leads the interparliamentary assembly; it does not amount to leadership of the entire intergovernmental OSCE.
